The Mount Mariah Baptist Church had it humble beginning on July 27, 1900, on Bayou Latanache in Batchelor, Louisiana.  The outstanding Board of Trustees consisted of Jimmy Moutry, Thomas Garrison, Abe White, London Taylor, and Caesar Johnson.

Rev. A. Gardner had a vision to start a little picket church on Bayou Latanache.  The church was later moved to the present site in Batchelor Louisiana.  Rev Gardner was a progressive leader and assisted in the church’s growth.

Following Rev. Gardner’s tenure was Rev. David Carter. He baptized many individuals and added to the membership of the church.

Rev. Dan Glasper, a dynamic speaker and friend, was next to minister and served Mount Mariah’s members.

  Rev. Israel Lawrence was a beloved pastor and a great man who always reminded his member that, “This is your church and you are responsible for its upkeep”.

  Rev. Aaron Myles was a biblical student and great preacher.  He was a humble man and always willing to assist the congregation.

  Rev. Phil McQuarters followed Rev. Myles. He was a very kind pastor and more like a father to the members.  Rev. McQuarters saw a need for a new church and this church was built under his leadership.

  Following Rev. McQuarters was Rev. Leslie Draper. He was a man of God, a leader, and a friend.  He was willing to go when he was called upon.  He served until his untimely death.

  Rev. Reese Turner became the Pastor of Mount Mariah after Rev. Draper’s death.  He guided the members of the church for the next seven years.

  Presently, the church is under the leadership of the dynamic and awesome Pastor Kelvin Morris.  Pastor Morris celebrated his 1^st Anniversary with us on July 31, 2016. He is known by his members as the pastor who keeps it real and believes strongly in the building up of people.  He works tirelessly to minister to the congregation in his sermons and music.  As the membership continues to increase, he encourages everyone to make worship a priority at home and at church.
